Traveller Story: Tour #6 and Counting - Magnifico!

Traveller

Paul Thornton

What tour did you travel on?

'Magnifico' Spain and Portugal in September, 2024

Why did you select this particular tour?

Personally I had earmarked the Best of British, however my wife thought we should revisit Spain since she loved doing Northern Spain and the Pyrenees.

Who did you travel with?

Helen Thornton.

Have you travelled with us previously?

The Italian Grande, Italy the Deep South and Sicily, Black Forest the Bavarian Alps and Austria, Northern Spain and the Pyrenees and The Italian Alternativo.

What was your favourite place/s on your Albatross tour?

Segovia was outstanding, from the ancient Roman Aqueduct to the Alcazar de Segovia an enchanting town that exceeded my expectations. We even awoke to watch hot air balloons travelling across the sunrise each day. I have been to a lot of churches and temples in my life but none have taken my breath away like the Bom Jesus Sanctuary, inside that church was like nothing I have ever seen before.

Alcazar, Segovia

What was the most amazing thing you saw or did on your Albatross tour?

I was both surprised and impressed with the unique gardens at the Aveleda Wine estate, our guide was brilliant and she had all the time in the world for us, she obviously loves her job and besides my wife found her new favourite wine there!

Tell us about your most memorable moment on tour?

To be honest the most memorable thing on this tour was how well we all got on with each other, we have been on 5 previous Albatross tours and this bunch were great.

What was your favourite meal on tour?

Between the view at dinner (with some Amazing wine) at Pestana Cidadela Cascais and the food and service on our last meal at Parador de Toledo, I would say Toledo just scrapes through by a nose as the food was the most scrumptious and the staffs hospitality was magnificent.

What advice do you have for anyone interested in travelling on this tour?

If you are considering doing a tour and dislike whistle stop tours, then Albatross is the one for you without doubt.
