The Albatross Group Supports Australian Bushfire Recovery
The fires that have raged in Australia have been devastating.
More than 10 million hectares have been burnt, that is the equivalent of 40% of the UK, and the devastation continues. Recent heavy rain and thunderstorms has brought some respite, dousing some of the bushfires, but it has also brought the threat of flooding. In addition to lives and homes, an estimated 1.25 billion animals have been affected, including 30% of the entire koala population in mid-north coast of New South Wales, worsening the extinction crisis that this region of the world is already facing.
In the face of this awful crisis, Albatross Tours with The Albatross Group have donated $20,000 to the relief effort. We thought long and hard about the charity or cause to support and we selected WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.). WIRES has been rescuing and caring for wildlife for over 30 years and supports smaller volunteer organisations in the wildlife sector.
The scale of the challenge facing relief efforts all over Australia is impossible to imagine but we hope this donation will make a difference. We know that many of you have been close to areas of high impact, and we from across the Albatross Group in the UK and Australia send our thoughts and best wishes to everyone affected.
