Discover the Natural Wonders of Europe

Discover the Natural Wonders of Europe

So often, those who visit Europe tend to rave about its culture, its food, and the wildly different personalities that are spread across the continent. But look beneath this surface and you’ll discover that this corner of the world is also home to some awe-inspiring natural beauty.

From rolling mountain ranges to dramatic cliff faces, from tumbling waterfalls to mysterious chasms, we’ve picked seven natural wonders of Europe that have been designed by nature to take your breath away…

1. Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

Feel the wind rushing around you on a breezy day, or join the gulls basking on the clifftops when the sun is shining. Whatever the weather, looking out across the infinite ocean from Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher will certainly make you feel alive. Admire the cliffs by booking a spot on our Ireland Connection Tour.

2. Gouffre de Padirac, France

When you think of ‘stunning views’ you might imagine looking out from the top of a tall building, but visit the Gouffre de Padirac and you’ll enjoy a rather different perspective. This natural phenomenon was created when the underground cave’s roof fell in on itself.

Today, you can descend 75 metres into the stunning Gouffe de Padirac chasm and enjoy looking up to glimpse the world above. The eerie rock formations and clear river are best explored by foot or by taking a short boat tour. Visit this stunning underworld when you book a place on our La Grande France Tour.

3. Saxon Switzerland National Park, Germany

Southeast of the city of Dresden lies the beautiful Saxon Switzerland National Park. Here you’ll enjoy 93 square kilometres of beautiful flora, hilly terrain, and intriguing rock formations. The most famous of these is the Bastei and the Bastei Bridge. The manmade bridge connects a dramatic rock formation and offers the chance to enjoy panoramic views of the nearby mountains and the River Elbe.

The park’s beauty changes with the seasons, so you’ll always find the perfect photo moment. Visit the Saxon Switzerland National Park on our East Germany & the Glorious Czech Republic tour.

4. Trümmelbach Falls, Switzerland

As the only accessible underground glacier waterfalls, we can boldly say that Trümmelbach Falls aren’t just one of Europe’s natural wonders. They’re also one of the world’s greatest treasures. During our Alpine Adventure Tour, take lifts, tunnels and paths to explore the thundering, roaring falls that move up to 20,000 litres of water per second from the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau glaciers.

5. Pic du Midi de Bigorre, French Pyrenees

Feel like you’re on top of the world when visiting Pic du Midi de Bigorre. This natural wonder of Europe is 2,877 metres above sea level and is (perhaps more impressively) home to the Pic du Midi Observatory. Built into the mountain’s peak, the observatory is famed for taking detailed photos of the moon in preparation for the NASA Apollo missions.

Feeling brave? Step into the glass viewing area to get an unobstructed panoramic view of the Pyrenees. Ascend the Pic du Midi de Bigorre on our Northern Spain and Pyrenees tour.

6. Lavender Fields of Hvar, Croatia

Some natural wonders of Europe are more than a feast for the eyes, as is the case with the lavender fields on the island of Hvar. Visit on our Croatia & Adriatic Tour during June and July and revel in the island’s lazy summer lavender scent.

7. Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro, Sicily

Enjoy contrasting natural beauty and a variety of changing flora and wildlife when exploring the seven kilometres of Sicily’s first protected nature reserve. Get your smartphone camera ready for postcard-perfect white sands, crystal-clear Mediterranean waters, and the dramatic Mesozoic limestone coastline jutting into deeper water.

You can swim, walk and relax in the Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro during our Italy, Deep South and Sicily Tour.
